The One-Line Truth

The whole disease in one chain

Everything on this page exists to explain this line.

Frailty looks like slow walking, weak grip, unplanned weight loss, exhaustion, and low activity — a body running on empty reserves.

A factory running on fumes

Your body is like a factory designed to run at 70–80% capacity, keeping 20–30% in reserve for emergencies. Frailty is what happens when that reserve drains away across the whole factory at once. Muscle is like the factory's skilled workforce—when workers leave (sarcopenia), you cannot ramp up production during a crisis. Chronic inflammation is like a faulty alarm system that never shuts off, wasting energy and wearing out the machines (your tissues) even when there is no real threat. Multimorbidity is like having three separate production lines breaking down at the same time, each demanding repair crews and draining the budget. Polypharmacy is like adding more and more patches to fix each broken line, but the patches interfere with each other and slow everything down. When a small stressor hits—a parts shortage, a power glitch, a worker calling in sick—a healthy factory absorbs it easily. A frail factory, already stripped to the minimum, cannot adapt; it shuts down completely, and restarting takes months.
