Phase 1 · Understand the Body — Why the disease behaves the way it does.
The One-Line Truth
The whole disease in one chain
Everything on this page exists to explain this line.
The immune system destroys the insulin-making cells in the pancreas, so the body can never bring blood sugar into cells without outside insulin.
The Factory Guard Attacks the Assembly Line
Imagine a glucose factory where security guards (immune cells) are supposed to stop only intruders, but they mistake the assembly-line workers (beta cells) for the enemy and attack them. The workers—who normally sense incoming orders (rising blood glucose) and immediately send out delivery trucks full of keys (insulin)—start disappearing. Without enough workers, no keys ship out, so glucose packages pile up in the loading dock (bloodstream) and can't enter the warehouses (muscle and fat cells) that need them. The warehouse managers try to survive by burning their own walls for fuel (breaking down fat and muscle), which makes toxic smoke (ketones), and water floods out of the loading dock (osmotic diuresis) because the glucose garbage clogs the drainage system. The security cameras (autoantibodies like anti-GAD65) start marking the dead workers months before the factory shuts down, but nobody reads the alerts until the smoke is choking everyone.
