The One-Line Truth
The whole disease in one chain
Everything on this page exists to explain this line.
The bag of water breaks before 37 weeks and before labor starts.
The Sealed Container Breached
Think of the amniotic sac like a factory's sealed sterile clean room — the two-layer membrane (amnion and chorion) is the airtight door and walls that keep contaminants out. The amniotic fluid is the controlled environment inside where the product (the baby) develops perfectly. Bacteria from outside are like workers trying to enter without permission — normally they cannot cross the sealed barrier, but if the door tears (from infection weakening the seal, inflammation thinning the walls, or physical pressure from stretching), germs climb straight in. Once inside, the bacteria multiply in the warm, rich fluid, and the body's alarm system (fever, fast heart rate, white blood cells) triggers an emergency shutdown — delivery must happen immediately, or the whole operation (mother and baby) gets contaminated and fails.
