The One-Line Truth
The whole disease in one chain
Everything on this page exists to explain this line.
Infection in the uterus lining after delivery, usually from bacteria that climbed up during birth.
Fortress Under Siege After the Gate Breaks
Your uterus is like a fortress with thick stone walls (myometrium) and a sealed gate (cervix). After delivery, the gate is broken and hanging open, and there's a fresh wound inside where the siege weapon (placenta) was mounted. The moat (endometrium) is now raw, bloody, and exposed. Enemy soldiers (bacteria) from the swamp outside (vagina) march straight through the broken gate and swarm the wound because it's warm, wet, and full of blood to feed on. The fortress garrison (immune cells) sounds the alarm—they light fires (fever), ring bells (pain and swelling), and send messengers galloping out (inflammatory chemicals into the bloodstream). If the soldiers get deep into the walls or multiply into hidden pockets faster than the garrison can kill them, the whole kingdom (body) goes on war footing—guards run faster (tachycardia), breathing gets heavy (tachypnea), and if the enemy breaches the castle walls and reaches the king (sepsis), the kingdom starts to collapse (organ failure).
