The One-Line Truth

The whole disease in one chain

Everything on this page exists to explain this line.

A Broken Furnace in a Sealed House

Imagine your body is a house with a furnace (diaphragm and breathing muscles) that heats it by burning fuel and venting exhaust (CO₂) up the chimney. When you become very obese, heavy blankets and sandbags pile on top of the furnace, making it work twice as hard just to push exhaust up the chimney—the furnace gets tired and weaker. Meanwhile, the thermostat in the brain (medulla) that senses exhaust buildup gets broken from years of high exhaust levels; it stops complaining when CO₂ is high because it has reset to accept dangerous levels as normal. On top of that, fat clogs the chimney opening (airway), so at night when everything relaxes, the exhaust cannot escape at all—it backs up into the house. The result: toxic exhaust (CO₂) accumulates day and night, the house (blood) becomes acidic and oxygen-starved, and the backup pressure damages the furnace and pipes (right heart and pulmonary vessels). Treatment means clearing the clogged chimney (PAP therapy), strengthening the tired furnace (ventilation support), and removing the sandbags (weight loss) so the whole system can work normally again.
