A Factory Under Siege by Its Own Guards

Imagine a chemical factory (the liver) where workers (hepatocytes) make cleaning products (albumin, clotting factors) and process waste 24/7. A saboteur virus sneaks in through a delivery truck (contaminated blood) and hijacks individual workers at their stations, forcing them to photocopy the saboteur's blueprint instead of doing their real job. The factory's security team (immune system) sees the hijacked workers and shoots them dead to stop the saboteur, but the saboteur is a shape-shifter who keeps changing his face faster than security can aim. So security keeps shooting, killing worker after worker, year after year. The factory tries to patch each dead worker's station with concrete (scar tissue), but eventually so much concrete piles up that the whole factory floor becomes a rigid, broken mess. Blood that used to flow smoothly through the factory backs up like a clogged pipe, causing dangerous pressure in the supply lines (esophageal varices) and swelling in the storage room (ascites). By the time the factory can barely make cleaning products anymore, it's too late to fix — unless you give the workers a weapon (antiviral pills) that stops the saboteur from copying himself.
