The One-Line Truth

The whole disease in one chain

Everything on this page exists to explain this line.

When kidneys fail completely, the body cannot clean the blood or balance fluids and minerals—only dialysis or a transplant can do that job.

A city with broken sewers and no power plant

Imagine a city where the water treatment plant (the kidneys) has 85% of its filters clogged and broken. Raw sewage (urea, creatinine) backs up into every street (the bloodstream), making people sick. The city's power plant (kidney hormone factories) shuts down, so the blood bank cannot make enough red blood cells (anemia, like blackouts everywhere), and the calcium-vitamin D plant fails (bones crumble like old concrete). The sewage system cannot remove excess salt and water, so streets flood (volume overload, swelling (edema), pulmonary edema (fluid flooding the lungs)). The city tries to pump faster and harder (sympathetic nervous system, RAAS activation) to push everything through, but broken sewers stay broken—only ripping out the old system and installing a new kidney transplant or running a portable filter (dialysis) 3 times a week can save the city. Between dialysis sessions, sewage piles up again in a terrible cycle.
