The One-Line Truth

The whole disease in one chain

Everything on this page exists to explain this line.

Most bladder-catheter infections can be stopped before they start.

Catheter as an Unwanted Door Prop

Your bladder is like a sterile, sealed storage room that empties itself completely through one narrow, guarded exit door. The urethra and its tight sphincter muscle are like a security guard who checks every person leaving and keeps the door locked when no one's going in or out. A catheter is like propping open that door with a plastic rod—it creates a direct highway from the dirty hallway (skin bacteria) straight into the clean room (bladder). Bacteria are like shoplifters who see the open door and walk right in, then stick to the plastic rod and build a fort (biofilm) that the security guards (white blood cells) can't penetrate. Every day the door stays propped open, more squatters move into the fort, multiply, and eventually break through into the building's electrical system (bloodstream), causing the whole building to catch fire (sepsis). Removing the prop (catheter) as soon as it's not needed is like finally closing and locking the door—the squatters stop coming, the fort crumbles, and the room stays safe.
